2003 Moth Worlds Diary - Update #1
22 August, 2003

Finally got to an internet cafe here with a stupid french keyboard. Sailed yesterday again with the hydrofoils all day and got up to 18.5 knots (using the GPS) several times in about 15 knots of wind. this is about 5 knots faster than a standard moth in that breeze, but i am still unsure about using them in all races just yet, as i need more practise to feel comfortable on them first i think.

They had a photographer on the water yesterday also, and they got some great photos. will send them on when i get a hold of them.

Weather is still warm to hot, but there is a nice sea breeze of about 15-20 knots everyday at about 2pm. however the seabreeze comes from the land where we are so it is flat water with a bit of chop from the local motor boats. There are a few jelly fish in the water also, so it makes it a bit scary when foiling at high speed. Have hit one already at low speed, but no damage luckily.

The local spectator craft are loving the high speed, air and the odd stack that i have been doing tho, and i am constantly getting questions about my boat in french that i cannot answer or even understand.

There are more sailors turning up every day (we got here early) and the rest of the australians should be here today or tomorrow. all the swiss and french are here tho, as well as one dutch, japanese, and german.

The practise race is on the 24th so i might try and email again before then. should be able to send through results and photos as they come through, otherwise keep your eye on the web site...
